Purbeck Young Artists 2017 is already well under way. There are two main strands; an annual show of young artists’ work and a series of artist led workshops in local schools sponsored and organised by PYA.
The theme for Purbeck Young Artists 2017 is ‘A moment in time’ and is chosen to give students the maximum scope to explore their imaginative range; encouraging them to draw inspiration from a wide range of sources and interpret the theme from varied perspectives.
This year we are running 15 workshops in schools to inspire young artists to be even more creative, enterprising and innovative – as well as have fun. The range of workshops span textiles, metal work, photography, dance, ink painting, sewing, mosaics and clay modelling. Some wonderful ideas have emerged in the 15 workshops we have run. You can see their results at Rollington Barn, while some of the more delicate 3D work will be on show at DOMVS in Wareham.
There is also the “Isle of Purbeck clock” – a collaboration between all schools in the Purbeck area. Every decorated ‘tile’ submitted by a child is included in the clock installation – no one has been left out. You can see this stunning ‘working’ clock in Rollington Barn.
We also create community art. Under the inspirational guidance of Dawn Newlove three local schools have been making a wide range of clay creatures, birds, plants and flowers as part of a frieze for the Wareham Library Garden regeneration project. We have also involved the art group at the Purbeck Centre. Watch this space for more details.
The PYA Celebration Evening is at Rollington Barn May 25th 4.00-6.00pm, with the prize-giving at 4:30pm
