Welcome to Purbeck Art Weeks
24 May – 8 June 2014
The 2014 Festival
This year’s Festival runs from Saturday 24th May till Sunday 8th June. For the first time there will be an overall theme that will embrace not just our Purbeck Young Artists but also many of our Events and some of the work of our visual artists. The theme of Venetian Carnival has given our young artists plenty of scope to be creative. See their final work at Rollington Barn during the Festival. Join us at our opening event on Wareham quay at 5.00pm on Saturday 24th May before a performance in Lady St Mary’s Church by the Gabrieli consort & players of Venetian Coronation – their recent recording of this spectacular work won a Gramophone Award.
If you have not seen Red Priest, then prepare to be amazed! They bring a whole new approach to engaging young and old in Vivaldi and other composers. Their performance at Lytchett Minster school on Wednesday 4th June at 6.00pm will include performances by young dancers who have developed new works on the Venetian theme.

The internationally famous sculptor Philip Jackson has kindly agreed not only to be our visiting artist but also to loan us a sculpture which will form the centre piece of our publicity drive to raise awareness on the Festival and its Venetian theme. Philip is perhaps best known for some of his public art and in particular the recent memorial in Green Park, London, to Bomber Command and the statue of Alex Ferguson. But his other works are no less striking and atmospheric. He will talk about his work and be our guest at a Priory dinner which will initially be offered to our Festival Friends.
