PAW 2015 is getting closer!
Purbeck Art Weeks Festival is the opportunity for a wonderful day out. You’ll be able to meet artists in a range of amazing venues nestled in the villages and hills of Purbeck, talk about their work, perhaps watch them at work, or even have a go yourself: prepare to be diverted, delighted and inspired and expect the unexpected – and come home with a unique piece of artwork to treasure. Or simply enjoy and celebrate the huge range of creative activity, from painting, sculpture, stone carving, ceramics, and photography, to glass, jewellery, digital art, furniture and much more. In the evenings you’ll be able to take your imagination in a different direction and enjoy a wide range of inspiring music, film and talks.
Last year’s Purbeck Art Weeks (PAW) Festival took place for two weeks at the end of May. It was a great success, with over 80 artists opening their studios and record numbers of people at a fantastic range of music, dance and film events from Baroque to Blues to Venetian architecture. There were record sales and numbers at Rollington Barn and in many artists’ venues, and events attracted people from all over Purbeck as well as London, the home counties, Sussex, Hampshire and many other places who came specially to visit the Festival. Visiting our Purbeck Artists on-line will give you a sample of the creativity of Purbeck Art Weeks artists. And to get a taster of the exciting events enjoyed by so many have a look at our Festival Video Gallery.
Plans are now well under way for this year’s PAW Festival which runs from Saturday 23rd May to Sunday 7th June. The theme will be ‘Out of the Depths’ – a topic inspired by what lies under and across Purbeck, one of the most beautiful parts of Britain; the quarries, the mines, the sea and the links that artists who live here have with the area. So many materials, ideas and inspirations start in the depth of the earth or mind before they emerge, transformed. We hope it will inspire established, new, and young artists working in the area and encourage those who enjoy looking at art to think about how this theme might be interpreted. Who knows what this will lead to – put the date in your diaries and come and see!
More information will be available here from March 2015.
